Don’t Wait Until You Need It to Learn It Isn’t Working Properly

Even if you’re not using the generator, it needs to be serviced. To get your generator serviced find a date that fall outside possible severe weather such as… well, you know, hurricanes. Because, in Florida, that is what most residents have a home generator for. Yeas, we get more than our fair share of heavy thunderstorms that may create temporary loss of power. But when it comes to what most use their generator for, it is for long term power outages. We generally tell customers to service their generators in the winter or spring to keep it on a regular schedule. If you keep pushing off the maintenance, chances are your generator will not work when the time comes. An average service takes about an hour to complete, depending on what you find.

At Gold Standard Electric, we offer an affordable generator maintenance agreement that offers a detailed point of inspection. We go over the fuel lines, oil level, and oil filter. We do a general condition inspection which checks for vibrations, noises, leakage, and we inspect air inlets, clear debris, and clean the exterior and interior unit while also applying silicone spray.

We will check the electrical aspects of the generator and check wiring for loose connections, corrosion, and damage. We will test and clean the battery while also checking voltage.
Meter reading will be checked for accuracy, spark plugs will be inspected and changed if needed. We will check the mechanical aspects of the generator, inspect the accessory drive belts and inspect the hoses and clamps.

Coolant levels will be inspected as well as the enclosure louvers. Gold Standard Electric's inspection also includes a startup test exercise for 10 minutes, along with an electrical power failure simulation to be sure the system is set up and functioning properly.
